Game Review
This was
Denis Pagan’s first official game as Carlton coach. Collingwood raced away to a big early lead but the Blues fought back, showing plenty of spirit, outscoring the Magpies 6 goals to 2 + a 9-pointer in the third quarter. But the Magpies proved too good in the end, with a 6 goal + a 9-pointer to 3 goal final quarter, to run out 56 point winners. They were aided by 4 '9-pointer' goals (kicked from outside 50m), while Carlton failed to kick any.
Brendan Fevola showed significant improvement from 2002, kicking 4 goals.
Scott Camporeale also played well and kicked 3, while
Darren Hulme and
Adrian Hickmott each kicked 2.
The loss saw Carlton make an early exit from the pre-season Wizard Cup and go into the practice match circuit.
The League introduced new rules in the Pre-season Wizard Cup including 'Super' goals that were worth 9 points when scored outside the 50 metre arch.

Game Review
Carlton started slowly but kicked 8 unanswered goals and kept the Swans goalless in the second and third quarters (with Hall off injured).
Brendan Fevola with 3 goals and
Scott Camporeale with 2 were instrumental in the turnaround. This was Carlton's first win in a match in 2003 under new coach
Denis Pagan.

Game Review
Inaccurate kicking was again costly for the Blues, which saw them 9 points down at quarter time despite having more scoring shots. They had the better of the second quarter to take a one point lead at half time. Port kicked the first 2 goals of the third quarter to regain the lead but the Blues responded with the next 3 to take a 5 point lead at 3/4 time. Port again kicked 3 goals to regain the lead but the Blues fought back with 4 unanswered goals and ran out 7 point winners.
Anthony Koutoufides, on the comeback trail from a knee injury which had restricted him to just cameo appearances in 2002, showed a great return to form.
