A depleted Carlton outfit missing a galaxy of stars, confronted the 1973 champions (on their way to defending the crown).After a spirited first half resulted in a 12 point lead, partly attributable to Richmond's inaccuracy, the Blues succumbed to the more talented Tigers by 30 points.
Richmond continued their winning run by downing Carlton for the third consecutive time after being well down at half-time. The Tigers young half-forward Robert Lamb booted another five goals, which virtually meant the difference at the end of the game. It was the Blues lowest score in any game since the 1972 Second Semi Final re-play against Richmond at the MCG and their fourth "away" game loss in six games. - Football Record.
