Game Review
Carlton were surprised and shocked with a 27 point loss to the Demons on this day in 1994. A multi-pronged forward line of Sean Charles, later to (briefly) become a Blue, David Schwarz and Martin Pike were just too effective against our defence which looked slow and short on the day. It seemed as though they could just mark everything up forward - they only had 5 goal kickers on the day, but they were ones we couldn't stop. The Demons multi-tagged champion Blue Greg Williams to try and keep him out of the game. The move was successful with Glenn Lovett taking the honours and our drive from midfield limited. Diesel finished with 16 stats for the game. Melbourne's two ruckmen were also clear winners on the day.
The loss would set us up against Geelong in the Second Semi-Final.
One name that does not appear in these Carlton final team sheets in 1994 is Craig Bradley. This season's finals along with the Qualifying Final, 2000 (also against Melbourne) are the only final games that he missed at Carlton - and all were defeats.
