1900 Summary
Carlton was destined to finish 7th after the home & away rounds in 1900, but improved on earlier seasons by winning 5 games - including our first against Collingwood, and the traditional 2 victories over St Kilda. With the Sectional rounds still a feature of the VFL, Carlton would be allocated games against Essendon, Fitzroy and South Melbourne during rounds 15 to 17 (Sectionals 1-3) and, despite defeating South Melbourne by a solitary point, miss out again on a finals campaign. In 1900, the Sectional matches were effectively separate from the home & away rounds prior to Round 14. However, this would be the final year where this was the case. From 1901 onwards, the results from the Sectional games would be added to the initial 14 home & away rounds, and the finals determined on all 17 games.
Overall though, 6 wins out of 17 was a marked improvement on Carlton's efforts from 1897 to 1899.
